Fondest Wishes for Critically Injured Michael Schumacher

Throughout Sunday, I like many other Formula 1 racing fans have been paying close attention to the news. Once I heard the report of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher suffering a head injury from a falling while skiing in France, I've been wishing for the best news. Regrettably, the news has not been so positive as the 44-year-old is comatose in critical condition.

Spending 19 seasons on the most prestigious open wheel racing series on the globe, many of us know him as the athlete who became a modern legend behind the wheel. Battling for every one of his 91 victories in 308 races, Schumacher is now, according to reports, fighting for his life at a hospital in Grenoble. At this time, Michael Schumacher has undergone at least one neurosurgery. Doctors now say they "cannot predict the future" of the former Formula 1 driver.

I mostly remain hopeful Michael Schumacher will possess the aggressive fight and peak human skill is demonstrated so many times in Formula 1 competition. A daring driver will once took out Damon Hill in order to secure his first Formula 1 title in 1994, one of my favourite performances illustrating Schumacher's tenacity occurred at the 1995 Belgian Grand Prix. As rain dampened he Spa-Francorchamp circuit, Michael Schumacher piloting his Benetton-Renault defied set opinions to stop for wet weather tires immediately. Remaining competitive in pace on a wet track with slick tires, Schumacher won that race in way few others would have succeeded.

Michael Schumacher's heart has been one of a champion. I wish for some positive development for him and his family.

Vettel Tops Tight Korean GP Qualifying Session

The second race in a late season Asian continent stint, the Korean Grand Prix on the 5.62-kilometer Korea International Circuit is part of the dawning for the 2013 Formula 1 season. Running for its fourth time, the Korean Grand Prix is an event shaky ground for the future. A troubled race financially according to some reports, the grand prix in South Korea is only tentatively scheduled on the 2014 Formula 1 calendar. Even if it does return next year, the Korean Grand Prix will be shifted to an early season event.

Enjoying a late season position on the Formula 1 tour, the 2013 Korean Grand Prix would have appreciated a more cinematic battle for the drivers' championship. Heading into the race weekend, Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel is maintaining a 60-point lead over second place Fernando Alonso. Bad news for the competition looking to make ground up on Vettel is the fact the German driver had won the last two races at the Korea International Circuit.

During qualifying, Sebastian Vettel obtained the top grid position with a 1-minute, 37.202-second lap time in Q3. Two-tenths of a second off Vettel's time, the Mercedes AMG race car of Lewis Hamilton took the grid spot beside the Red Bull-Renault for Sunday's race. Mark Webber was third fastest during the Q3 session placing all three previous Korean Grand Prix pole winners at the top on the time sheet. However, Webber will lose some of his advantage. Due to a penalty assessed following his part in an unsafe incident at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix, Mark Webber will be demoted 10 grid positions for the start in Korea putting the Red Bull-Renault in 13th place. For fourth-place Romain Grosjean, this means he receives the first progression forward for 10 drivers. For the French Lotus-Renault driver, the start is the second race in a row where he is starting in third place.

Driving the Mercedes AMG team's second race machine, Nico Rosberg will start fourth on Sunday after lapping the track in 1 minute, 37.679 seconds. The top-five times in the Q3 session of 2013 Korean Grand Prix qualifying were separated by less than half a second. Behind Rosberg, the Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa will look to pad their manufacturers points position. Ferrari is only seven points ahead of Mercedes AMG.

Taking the fourth row of Sunday's Korean Grand Prix, the customer Ferrari engined cars of Sauber has placed both team cars in the top-10 for the first time in 2013. Marginally off the pace of Felipe Massa's factory Ferrari, the Sauber-Ferrari of Nico Hulkenberg took the advantage over Esteban Gutierrez. The remaining top-10 competitors starting the 2013 Korean Grand Prix consists of Kimi Raikkonen's Lotus-Renault and the McLaren-Mercedes of Sergio Perez.

Sunday's main event will consist of 55 laps on the Korea International Circuit. Taking place at 3 PM local time, race time for viewing the Korean Grand Prix in the eastern time zone is 2 AM.

Hamilton Flies High in Hungarian GP Qualifying

As the 2013 Formula 1 season passes its halfway point, the Hungarian Grand Prix sits in an unusual spot in the schedule. Last competing three weeks ago at the Nurburgring in Germany, the late July trip to Hungary will be Formula 1 teams' final outing ahead of a nearly one month break for the open wheel tour. The 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix is held as the closest event to the middle of the summer season in the northern hemisphere frequently taking place in hot conditions.

A tight 4.381-kilometer race course placing a heavy premium on car handling, the Hungaroring remains favourable to top the Formula 1 race teams who can adapt to the circuit through the weekend. In qualifying, the Hungaroring served in the creation of more of the same results we've grown accustomed to witnessing as the 2013 season progresses.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the summer heat baked the Hungaroring with an air temperature of 33 degrees Celsius at the beginning of Formula 1 qualifying (rising through the latter sessions up to 35 degrees). Battling the heat and tricky Hungarian race track, the Mercedes AMG's Silver Arrows soared to another time trial triumph. With a lap time of 1 minute, 19.388 seconds, Lewis Hamilton claimed a narrow advantage over Sebastian Vettel. Lewis Hamilton has won the last three pole positions and four overall in the 2013 Formula 1 season. However, the 2013 Mercedes AMG newcomer is still chasing his first victory for his new team. Nico Rosberg in the second Mercedes AMG car recorded a fourth-fastest time in Q3 after leaving the Q2 session at the top of the time chart.

While Mercedes AMG cars have taken ownership of the pole through the 2013 Formula 1 season, second-place in Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull-Renault has remained remarkably consistent through the 10 events. Winning three pole overall this season, Vettel has only missed the podium place starting spot once at the Chinese Grand Prix. Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying allows Vettel to extends his top-three in qualifying streak to seven consecutive race weekends.

Demonstrating a swift qualifying pace once-again, Romain Grosjean has placed his Lotus-Renault race car third on the starting grid for Sunday's main race. A driver connected to controversy planned on his erratic performances on the race track, Grosjean's third place qualifying was almost taken away by race stewards because of a technical infraction. His Lotus-Renault's floor failed a post-qualifying examination but it was ruled the surface was caused by damage when Grosjean ran over a curb. Quickest in the third practice session ahead of qualifying, the Hungaroring is proving to be one of the Frenchman's more favorable tracks. Last season, he claimed a third-place spot on race day.

Lotus F1 Team's more veteran pilot Kimi Raikkonen will start the grand prix on the third row in sixth place. Raikkonen is sandwiched by Scuderia Ferrari cars with Fernando Alonso in fifth and Felipe Massa slotting into seventh place on the grid.

A 70-race event for Sunday, the Hungarian Grand Prix is shaping up to be a test against the dog days of summer. The temperature highs for Sunday's race day forecast is scheduled to reach a scorching 36 degrees Celsius. Pirelli estimates that teams will make two or three pit stops. Out of the top-10 qualifiers in Hungary, Only ninth place Sergio Perez recorded his grid position on medium compound tires. Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber did not record a lap in Q3 allowing the 10th place team to select their preferred tire compound for Sunday.

Alonso Has Competitors Seeing Red After Friday Canadian Grand Prix Practice

The first 2013 Formula 1 race taking place in the Americas, 4.361-kilometer Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Montreal's ÃŽle Notre-Dame is hosting the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend. Sunday's race will be the 50th Canadian Grand Prix held and the 34th visit for Formula 1 to the track named after a famous Canadian driver. Gilles Villeneuve's career was best remembered for his stint on the Ferrari team where he won all six of his grand prix races. The inaugural Canadian Grand Prix held on ÃŽle Notre-Dame in 1978 was one of those victories driving a red Ferrari. Nearly 35 years since that feat, practice for the 2013 race has a modern Ferrari organization looking good heading into qualifying and the main event.

In what turned out to be the fastest of the two Friday practices, the afternoon session saw Fernando Alonso post the quickest time on the day. On Pirelli supersoft tires, Alonso piloted his Ferrari F138 around Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 1 minute, 14.818 seconds. The fastest time for the Spaniard was a mere 12/100ths of a second better than the effort of the Mercedes AMG driver Lewis Hamilton. Roughly a quarter of a second off the fastest lap of Hamilton was Romain Grosjean's effort in a Lotus-Renault.

Teams and drivers posted their fastest times in the second practice largely due to morning showers that dampened the Montreal race course. Plagued by a wet track, the first practice took place on intermediate treaded Pirelli tires. Despite posting a rather short 10-lap effort through the Friday morning session, Paul di Resta and the Force India team prevailed as the fastest under wet conditions. The 1 minute, 21.020 second time for di Resta was a far cry from the afternoon times posted later in the day. Alonso was fourth fastest in the wetter morning practice for Ferrari. In the afternoon, Paul di Resta's Force India-Mercedes could only muster a 13th quickest time.

A surprise in both practice sessions was the lack of performance from the constructors' championship leading Red Bull Racing squad. Red Bull-Renault race cars driven by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber had been trailing in the lower half of the top 10 throughout Friday until Mark Webber posted a 1 minute, 15.212 second lap time in the second practice. Ninth fastest in the morning session and seventh-place on the afternoon time chart, Sebastian Vettel reported the day as "tricky".

With Friday presenting drivers and teams one practice in the wet and on a dry circuit, the mix of weather is expected to influence the remainder of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. There's a probability for rain during Saturday afternoon's qualifying and the 70-lap race on Sunday.

Vettel's Vigor in Bahrain Results in Victory

Last year, it wasn't until the sixth race on the Formula 1 grand prix calendar until a constructor repeated. It took eight race in 2012 before a Fernando Alonso became the first winner of more than one event. This year's Formula 1 contest has already started with three distant winners. Kimi Raikkonen with Lotus F1 Team, Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull Racing and more recently the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso had stood at the top of a 2013 grand prix race podium. Heading into the fourth race of the 2013 Formula 1 season at the Bahrain International Circuit, the question would stand if this year would establish a similar pattern.

Taking his first pole of 2013, German Mercedes-AMG driver Nico Rosberg posted a 1-minute, 32.330-second time on Saturday for the top spot for the 57-lap Bahrain Grand Prix. A second straight pole position for the Mercedes-AMG race team, 2013 has yet to result in a victory for Rosberg or new teammate Lewis Hamilton despite some strong runs. On the starting grid for the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg was joined by the Red Bull-Renault of Sebastian Vettel. Row two of the starting line-up saw the Ferrari F138 race cars paired with Fernando Alonso claiming an edge over Felipe Massa in qualifying.

Under warm, sunny conditions, the lights went out to signify the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix commenced. On the opening lap, a three-car incident sustained damage quickly in the early grand prix race. Valtteri Bottas' Williams-Renault, the Caterham-Renault of Giedo Van de Garde and the Jean-Eric Vergne driving a Toro Rosso-Ferrari were involved in a turn-four tangle. Scuderia Toro Rosso's driver Vergne would be the only competitor encountering difficulty preventing him from completing the grand prix.

Immediately into the Bahrain Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel became working over the pole-winning Mercedes for the lead. When the DRS system was enabled on the third lap, Vettel was able to push his Red Bull-Renault passed Nico Rosberg. When Rosberg fell to second, the Mercedes fell pray to the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso.

On lap five, Alonso took the second spot in the race but soon encountered issues. In a bizarre incident, the DRS rear wing device remained open past the activation zone on lap 7. Stuck open, the Ferrari needed to pit the following lap to have the flap reset. The problem occurred once more on the following lap requiring Fernando Alonso to once again pit. Based on the lost time in the pits and the malfunctioning DRS wing

Sebastian Vettel becomes the first multiple winner of the 2013 Formula 1 tour. Defending his 2012 victory on the Middle East race track, Vettel's 28th Formula 1 victory has permitted the three-time and reigning German driver to grab a 10-point advantage in the Driver's Standings.

In second and third place, the Lotus-Renault runners Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean accomplish a feat last performed at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2012. Collecting significant points for the Lotus F1 Team, is elevated to second place in the constructors' championship over Ferrari.

The 2013 Formula 1 Grid: Prospects and Promises

The 2013 Formula 1 season starts this weekend. The 2013 Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit is a heavily-anticipated opening round not only fans but for the teams will are striding to better the grid through off-season engineering and testing. New look teams and race cars will assemble eager to clamor for the unclaimed glory of the unwritten season.

Teams are aware of of completely new car building regulations scheduled for the 2014 season. Therefore, 2013 will be the last time Formula 1 cars will likely for powered by naturally-aspirated V8 engines. For the few three years, the consistency in the race formula has placed increased emphasis in gaining advantages in other aspects of competition. Cars built to exploit the edge of legality and driver changes are popular ways to set a team up for winning grand prixs. Sponsorship also plays a part under the axiom of "money buying speed".

Presented below is our 2013 Formula 1 grid:

Infiniti Red Bull Racing
Chassis: RB9
Engine: Renault

#1 Car: Sebastian Vettel
#2 Car: Mark Webber

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: Accepting a new team inviting Nissan's luxury brand Infiniti as a stronger sponsor partner, everything else to the team structure remains the same for the 2013 season. Infiniti Red Bull Racing enters another Formula 1 as defender of the constructor's championship. Reigning world driving champion German superstar Sebastian Vettel once again wheels the team's first car. In the second Red Bull-Renault again in 2013, Mark Webber may rest in Vettel's shadow but should not be underestimated. The 36-year old Australian has shown repeated instances of potential title contention. Either sameness will be a blessing for Red Bull Racing or it potentially leaves a chance for the competition to overhaul them.

Scuderia Ferrari
Chassis: F138
Engine: Ferrari

#3 Car: Fernando Alonso
#4 Car: Felipe Massa

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: The Scuderia Ferrari team was dogged by two concerns during the 2012 season. The first hovered around the early season performance of the Ferrari race car. In 2013, a completely new F138 chassis holds a lot of promise for the coming year. The 2012 Formula 1 campaign also held the future of Ferrari's second driver Felipe Massa under a microscope. Confidence from the team and improved on-track performance through last season has allowed Massa to safely reclaim his seat in 2013. Leading Scuderia Ferrari will be Fernando Alonso who missed the driver's championship by just three points. The 2013 Formula 1 tour could be prosperous fight if minor tweaks and luck runs in favour of the team.

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes
Chassis: MP4-28
Engine: Mercedes-Benz

#5 Car: Jenson Button
#6 Car: Sergio Perez

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: Though Vodafone McLaren Mercedes did not have a terrible 2012 season, the British Formula 1 team struggled with reliability during races. Jenson Button returns for his fourth season with McLaren taking the #5 car for 2013. Biggest news for McLaren is the acquisition of Formula 1 driving prospect Sergio Perez. The McLaren MP4-28 car is said to be heavily revised car incorporating an entirely unique component list compared to the 2012 predecessor.

Lotus F1 Team
Chassis: E21
Engine: Renault

#7 Car: Kimi Raikkonen
#8 Car: Romain Grosjean

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: The Lotus F1 Team showed consistent podium-contending performance last season. Lotus F1 Team's 2012 season was highlighted Kimi Raikkonen pulled off a mild upset victory at the Abu Dbahi Grand Prix. Consistency from Kimi Raikkonen concluded with a seven podium results which played a pivotal part to the team's fourth place in the constructor points. Although fast on track, Frenchman Romain Grosjean's 2012 season was riddled with controversy for questionable moves made during races. Grosjean returns to the second Lotus-Renault race car with many expecting improved consistency and better decision-making in competition. Most of the team's troubles have been positioned off-track as financial concerns for parent company Group Lotus leaves the future in question.

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team
Chassis: W04
Engine: Mercedes-Benz

#9 Car: Nico Rosberg
#10 Car: Lewis Hamilton

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: In 2012, Nico Rosberg won the first race for the Mercedes-owned Formula 1 organization since it returned to the sport in 2010. After the early season victory for the Mercedes team in China, drivers Rosberg and the new-retired Michael Schumacher struggled to finish races due to reliability problems or on-track incidents. The Mercedes Formula 1 race team ended the year unable to score a constructor point in five of the final six races. Losing their provocative double DRS system layout in 2013, the W04 race car is still designed to maximize aerodynamic flow. Popular 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton joins the team after spending his entire Formula 1 career with McLaren.

Sauber F1 Team
Chassis: C32
Engine: Ferrari

#11 Car: Nico Hulkenberg
#12 Car: Esteban Gutierrez

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: Sauber F1 Team has underwent various changes in personnel on and off the track. Monisha Kaltenborn assumes command of the team for the first full season. The driver line-up for the Sauber F1 Team has also been resorted for 2013 with Nico Hulkenberg joining the organization and 21-year old Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez arrives as a Formula 1 series rookie. Using last year's C31 race car as a reference, Sauber's C32 chassis has been refined for more intentional airflow for better performance. New livery will also see the Sauber F1 Team do away with their white/black colour scheme for a richer black and red.

Sahara Force India F1 Team
Chassis: VJM06
Engine: Mercedes-Benz

#14 Car: Paul di Resta
#15 Car: Adrian Sutil

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: For the past few seasons, the Sahara Force India F1 Team has been effective in scoring points is still fighting to reach the next level in Formula 1. With the all-new VJM06 chassis, the race car includes more adjustments for tuning race weekend performance. Losing Nico Hulkenberg to Sauber F1 Team, Force India has recalled German driver Adrian Sutil to team to drive alongside Paul di Resta.

Williams F1 Team
Chassis: FW35
Engine: Renault

#16 Car: Pastor Maldonado
#17 Car: Valtteri Bottas

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: Last year was the first time since 2004 when a Williams F1 car scored a Formula 1 race victory. Pastor Maldonado's Spanish Grand Prix win was a crucial step for an organization who claimed nine constructors' championships. Despite the impressive win from pole, Williams F1 Team enters 2012 still searching for the performance to keep itself consistently in point-scoring positions for 2013. Maldonado returns to a Williams-Renault seat. Veltteri Bottas joins the Williams F1 Team's race weekend roster after three years spent as test driver. William's FW35 chassis is said to be largely new with focus on weight redistribution.

Scuderia Toro Rosso
Chassis: STR8
Engine: Ferrari

#18 Car: Jean-Eric Vergne
#19 Car: Daniel Ricciardo

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: Existing as a mid-mark race team in Formula 1, the Scuderia Toro Rosso organization has excelled at contending for the lower point-paying positions in grand prix events. Preserving the driving lineup from the 2012 season, the efforts of Scuderia Toro Rosso was immediately positioned in the development of the STR8 race chassis. The STR8 race car is designed with emphasis on resolving aerodynamic and weight balance issues.

Caterham F1 Team
Chassis: CT03
Engine: Renault

#20 Car: Charles Pic
#21 Car: Giedo van der Garde

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: Caterham F1 Team is one of two surviving organizations originally existing as a group of four constructors entering 2010. Caterham F1 Team is still chasing an elusive constructor point in a Formula 1 grand prix event. It is the goal of the team for the CT03 chassis to be the vehicle meant to claim that most important honour. Since introducing the 2013 race car, Caterham has been forced to redesign their exhaust system after the FIA ruled it to be illegal. In 2013, the Caterham F1 Team employs an all-new driver lineup consisting of sophomore year Formula 1 Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde.

Marussia F1 Team
Chassis: MR02
Engine: Cosworth

#22 Car: Jules Bianchi
#23 Car: Max Chilton

2013 Formula 1 Season Prospect: In past years, Marussia F1 Team has been fighting to climb from the back of the Formula 1 field. The 2012 season showed some promise for the race organization as their Cosworth-powered cars collected a pair of 12th place finishes. The MR02 chassis is said to be extensively-shaped with CFD technology. The latest Marussia F1 race car will also incorporate a KERS unit in accordance with 2013 Formula 1 regulations. The team's driver line-up consists of two young pilots making a debut in Formula 1 for the 2013 season. Max Chilton is promoted from the job of team test driver to the number 22 car while Frenchman Jules Bianchi arrives with a resume containing references to years of formula car and GP2 Series participation.
